Podcast AI Policy: Content Integrity at Astrophiz
At Astrophiz, I believe the universe is far too interesting to let a machine have all the fun. While I’m fascinated by the tech of the future, I highly value that human ‘spark’ of curiosity—that moment of awe when a researcher sees a new data point or an amateur photographer captures their first occultation or aurora.
So you can trust me, I stick to the following principles regarding the use of AI:
1. People: AKA Human-Centered Storytelling and Science Communication
- Interviews Every interview you hear is a 100% genuine chat between me and my guests.
In the early days it was Skype, now predominately Zoom … with occasional face-to-face interviews.
I don’t use AI created voices and interviews are edited in the fabulous open-source editor Audacity.
If you hear a stumble, a laugh, or a moment of genuine surprise, that’s because a real human was behind the microphone. I use AI for the boring bits like getting the spelling right in transcripts, but the storytelling is strictly 1:1 and personal.

2. Images: Visual Integrity & Authentic Cosmic Imagery
- I only use authentic imagery from scientific archives of organizations like the European Space Agency, NASA, SKAO or the personal cameras of my guests. If an image looks mind-blowing, it’s because the universe made it that way, not an AI prompt.
- Photography & Guest Portraits: Portraits of my guests are authentic photographs provided by the researchers themselves or their institutions.
3. Supporting the Creative Community
While an AI assistant might help with the heavy lifting of SEO and transcripts it has zero say in my love for science, and my respect for scientists and their astrophysics.
